The Ultimate Packing Guide for Jamaica Water Excursions
By the Exclusive Island Tours Ja Concierge Team

Jamaica's best experiences happen in the water. A little preparation means you can focus on the fun instead of wet phones and slippery rocks.
Your water excursion checklist
- Water shoes, essential for climbing waterfalls and walking on river rocks.
- Swimwear, wear it under your clothes to save time.
- A waterproof dry bag or phone pouch.
- Reef-safe sunscreen to protect your skin and the island's waters.
- A quick-dry microfibre towel.
- A change of clothes for the ride back.
- Cash for tips, snacks and souvenirs.
The right footwear matters most
Regular sneakers soak up water and turn heavy, and flip flops are easily pulled off by river currents. Fitted, rubber soled water shoes grip wet limestone and stay on your feet, which makes them essential for Dunn's River Falls, the Blue Hole and Konoko Falls.
Forgot yours? Water shoes are usually sold at the falls, often for around $10 depending on the vendor, but bringing a pair that already fits is far more comfortable.
Dress for the ride and the water
Wear your swimwear under light clothes on the way so you can step straight into the water. Pack a dry outfit and a plastic bag for wet items, then change before the cool, air conditioned ride back to your resort.
Phones, cameras and valuables
A waterproof lanyard pouch is perfect for calm river floats and bamboo rafting photos. When climbing waterfalls, both hands should be free, so leave your phone with your driver in the locked vehicle or use the attraction lockers. Many falls also have photographers who capture your climb for you.
Leave expensive jewellery at your hotel and bring only the cash you need for the day.
